Late last month the City of Happy Valley’s retail presence was vastly expanded by the opening of the new Fred Meyer; the first Fre
d Meyer to open in 5 years in the State of Oregon. Along with the opening of the new department store, many of the shops, which started opening a week or two before, were opened as well.
The 143,000-square foot store is part of the first phase of what’s called the Crossroads development and has been nearly years in the making. The developer will now move on to Phase two of its development, which includes over a hundred townhomes just north of the retail space.
The $80M project built by Gramore and designed by Portland Design firm Mackenzie is perfectly positioned at the corner of 172nd and Sunnyside road and pleases the eye with a modern look and a rustic feel. It’s not just a looke
r either as the new Freddy’s is set to bring about 250 new jobs and 100 seasonal positions to the city.
With a list of shops and stores that include Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Hop Jack’s, Umpqua Bank, sprint, and Chipotle it’s no surprise that this new development will bring much needed diversity to Happy Valley’s retail front.
